The Luxurious Watch Review team chose five Longines watches for men to be in our top 5 list. Read on for you to learn more about the Longines brand and to further understand how we put this list together.
1. Longines Master Collection L2.6184.108.40.206
The Longines Master Collection L2.6220.127.116.11 starts with a very polished stainless steel case void of any complicated angles or cuts. The case measures 40mm without the signed non-screw down crown; 42.3 mm with the crown combined. A polished rounded bezel is the case's part along with smoothly polished chronograph pushers. Lug width is 21mm, and case thickness is 14.6mm.
The case back is a display type, with the sapphire crystal showing the finely furnished Longines Cal. L678 automatic movement, replete with a beautifully presented and approved rotor. The case back is a ‘pressure fitted’ type, which is a fancy way of telling it snaps. Also, this timepiece is factory rated for a very modest 30 meters or 100 feet of water resistance, which is fine in my opinion as I don't think anyone would want to take this fine watch into shower or swimming.
The silver dial is elegantly textured and is almost a silver-white in color. The elegantly crafted semi-sword style hour and minute hands are blued steel, and they look grand against the dial's texturing. The long central second's hand is the second's hand for the chronograph.
The black painted Arabic are presented in the perfect font, and despite this watch having so many complications, the dial stays easy to use and easy to read. Minimal dial printing also helps exceedingly in presenting this watch much easier to read. At the three position, ‘Longines’ and ‘Automatic’ are the words shown with the Longines wing logo between the two terms. Subtle and unobtrusive.
2. Longines Sports Legends Black Dial L3.618.104.22.168
The Longines Sports Legends Black Dial L3.622.214.171.124 is a beautiful 42 mm watch that matches the current “standard” size for such timepieces. This watch has two crowns; the lower one is for setting the time and date, while the upper one is for the inner diving bezel rotation. Both of these crowns have alike hobnail design like the original Longines Diver timepieces and are easy to grasp and operate.
A “Super Compressor” case like the one on this watch is common. In the past, companies like LIP (Nautic-Ski), Universal Genève (Polerouter Sub), Fortis, and Benrus have used them as well. The term “Compressor” associates to the case’s seal construction, which supports water resistance within pressure on the gaskets. “Super Compressor” is equivalent to standard “Compressor,” but also features a screw-down case back.
The Super-LumiNova hour hands and markers have a yellowish color like a patina. The dial's lume is great which makes reading time in the dark more convenient. The watch's hands are polished and contrast so well with the dial, supremely readable from all angles. Moreover, a case is a domed sapphire crystal on top of the 42 mm diameter and despite most buyers of this timepiece will almost absolutely be so-called desk swimmers, the watch can handle water pressure at depths down to 300 meters or 1,000 feet.
